UFCW Local 135 congratulates workers at flagship Mission Valley location
The United Food and Commercial Workers Union, or UFCW, recently announced the ratification of a collective bargaining agreement with workers at the San Diego-based cannabis dispensary chain March & Ash. This is the first union contract for the cannabis industry in Imperial counties. It will be valid for three years and provides wages and health benefits.
Until recently, many of the workers who worked at marijuana dispensaries were employed in the illegal “black market,” a sector of the industry in which employees work for dispensaries that operate without licenses. The workers often face hazardous and dirty work environments and do not receive adequate time off. These conditions are a huge drawback for the workforce and a reason why many marijuana workers chose not to join a union. However, a new union, called UFCW Local 135, has been organizing workers in the industry.
Employee benefit fund
The cannabis dispensary chain March and Ash recently ratified a union contract with the UFCW Local 135. The agreement is effective in all three of the company’s locations in San Diego County. It includes a range of benefits such as paid holidays, vacations, jury duty days and health care. In addition, the company pays the employees a minimum of $17 per hour.
As part of the agreement, the company agreed to a three-year contract that was formulated in conjunction with the workers’ union. The deal includes wage increases and a daycare fund. Among other things, the company will contribute $30,000 a year to childcare. Employees will also be eligible for a merit-based pay structure.
In addition, the deal includes the Employee Savings Program. This allows workers to save a portion of their salaries for medical expenses, auto insurance, child care and home insurance. Aside from these perks, the contract also includes a 401(k) plan, an education fund and profit-sharing.
Equity growth account
It’s a big deal when a company pays attention to its employees. Aside from a company’s financials, workers are rewarded with things like vacations, employee discounts, and employee benefits. The best ones include health and dental care, 401K matching, sexy benefits like flexible work schedules, and an employee stock purchase plan. Those of us lucky enough to be on the inside of a corporate office will also benefit from the company’s slick employee orientation program. And, as a bonus, workers get a discount on their monthly cell phone bills. Lastly, the company will offer employees a discount on the cost of insurance in the event of a workplace disaster.
Education fund
March and Ash is a San Diego based cannabis dispensary chain that recently ratified a collective bargaining agreement with UFCW Local 135. This includes merit wages, health benefits, daycare fund, and education fund. The contract will also provide for increases each year.

All employees in participating SEIU bargaining unit positions must have completed their probationary period. For more information, visit the Education Fund website.
In addition to its education program, the Education Fund offers innovative education solutions to meet the needs of a growing, diverse healthcare workforce. This includes a higher education emergency relief fund, which will provide funds to non-public schools.
